Course

Competitors will charge 2.4mi up the Cherry Canyon Logging Trail (gaining 2,450ft) to the standard paraglider launch, setup their wing, perform a safety check, fly down the mountain to the landing zone, then repeat the circuit. Timing starts at one coordinated time for all competitors (no exceptions), planned to be 6am (unless conditions require official adjustment). Timing stops for each competitor after their second flight, when they pass through a designated finish line (on foot).

Safety

There is inherent risk in paragliding, which you have chosen to engage with. This race is NOT the place try new things, perform acrobatics, or show off. This is a community event for us to enjoy free flight as a component of SPEEDMO (speed mountaineering).

The race will be won on the ground, not in the air! Differences in flight speeds are negligable when compared to the hikes and transition times. The race is designed for athletes to focus on their vertical speed and transition efficiency. You could technically win the fastest vertical category without ever even flying.

Winners

You, although we're not handing out participation trophies. You'll be out their pushing your limits on the mountain for the high we all chase, fulfillment. The high will last for at least a couple days ;) And, you might even win something in the raffle.

Join us in celebrating those pushing human limits and sweating all over the trail. The following hard-charging athletes will be recognized at an awards ceremony:

  • Overall (2-lap full course): the three fastest women's and men's times will be recognized.
  • Overall (1-lap short course): the three fastest women's and men's times will be recognized (including the 1-lap times of all full course athletes).

* Athletes placing on multiple podiums will receive a prize for (only) their longest race consideration.

Raffle

An epic raffle will be held at the awards ceremony. Prizes will include many gear, equipment, lesson, etc. items from race sponsors, each ranging from $5 to $1,000 in value. The raffle might just be better than the race ;)

You enter the raffle by:

  • (1 ticket) Registering for the race
  • (1 ticket) Volunteering at the race (limited)
  • (1 ticket) Per additional $5 donated to Speedmo

Media

We will have photographers and videographers on course who will process and provide everything they capture soon after the race for your legacy to live on social for a day, or your library forever.
